Description
Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) is a serious form of acid reflux or acid regurgitation.
The main symptom of GERD in adults is frequent heartburn, which may cause a burning sensation in the chest or throat. If reflux occurs more than twice a week, it is considered GERD, and can lead to more serious health problems.
If you have had symptoms of GERD and have been using antacids or other reflux medications for more than two weeks, see your doctor. Certain lifestyle changes can help treat GERD, and include: stopping smoking, avoiding foods and beverages that make symptoms worse, losing weight, and eating smaller and more frequent meals.
