Esophageal Endoscopic Ultrasound

Rectal Endoscopic Ultrasound

You should report to Patient Registration at Troy Beaumont Hospital approximately 1 1/2 hour before your procedure. However, endoscopic ultrasound procedures can only be done at certain times of the day. If you have time limitations you should let the scheduler know when you book your appointment. The hospital will call you the day before to confirm the time of the procedure.

FAQs for all procedures

ON THE DAY OF YOUR ENDOSCOPY

You should take your prescribed cardiac and hypertension medication. If you are Insulin dependent diabetic, you may take a half dose in the morning. If your diabetes is controlled by oral medication, you should not take your medication before the procedure. You may take your other regular medications, EXCEPT for those listed below in items 1 and 2.

1.   No aspirin products 10 days prior to the procedure, unless otherwise advised by your physician.  (see list)

2.   No Coumadin or nonsteroidal medications, e.g. Advil, Motrin, and Naprosyn etc. 3 days prior to the procedure. You may take Tylenol up until the day of the procedure.

3.   If you are having a rectal endoscopic ultrasound, use two Fleet enemas, 1 hour apart, on the morning of your procedure.

4.   If your procedure is early in the day, have nothing to eat or drink from midnight the night before, except for those prescription medications advised by your physician. If it is later in the day, you may have water and clear liquids up until 4 hours before the procedure.

SHORT STAY BED

If your physician requests that your procedure requires a Short Stay Bed, plan on staying in the hospital, in a reserved bed, for a minimum of eight hours after your endoscopy.
